Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and for some of us this is a day filled with gifts, romantic dinners and sharing a special time with your partner. However, for those of us who are single, it can leave us feeling lonely and left-out. Guess what? It’s okay! Just because you’re alone on Valentine’s Day does not mean you can’t celebrate it. Embrace being single. Embrace loving yourself. Let it be a day to celebrate putting yourself first. You don’t need someone in your life to make you happy. You don’t need a dozen roses to define how loved you are. Before we can love others, we must first learn to love ourselves. Learning to love yourself fully will be the most important decision of your life. When we finally learn to love ourselves unconditionally, we can truly become who we are supposed to be.
Here are a few ways to focus on self-love this Valentine’s Day:
Start writing a list of things that you love about yourself. Take time to really look in the mirror and think about what it is that you love most about yourself. You have gifts and talents that are unique to who you are. Be honest, be kind and have confidence in who you are.
Stop criticizing yourself. When you talk about yourself, think about the way you would talk to someone you love. You wouldn’t constantly be putting them down, or judging them, right? So why do it to yourself? Be kind and gentle with yourself. Our thoughts are powerful and can really shape the way we view ourselves. It’s crucial that we become aware of the way we talk, because it can have a profound impact on our self-esteem and self-worth.
Let go of comparing yourself to others. Ladies..nobody is perfect. Everyone has flaws and everyone has struggles. When we finally stop comparing ourselves to others, we can begin to appreciate who we are. Just remember, you are special and unique. There is literally no one else like you on earth!
Pamper yourself. Treat yourself to some extra love this V-Day. Go get your nails done, run a bubble bath, curl up with your favorite book. Do something that will make you feel relaxed, peaceful and happy.
Be patient with yourself. It can take time to learn to love ourselves. It’s a journey and it’s not going to happen over-night. However, once you begin the first step to self-love, it will become easier. Just remember, you are worthy, you are important and you are enough.
“If you want to give light to others, you have to glow yourself.”- Thomas S. Monson
