Bring it on, 2018
What a whirlwind 2017 has been. With every year comes good and bad, happiness and trials. Overall, we are wrapping up this year with a heart full of love, happiness and thankfulness. Entering into a New Year is always such an exciting time because it’s a fresh start, a time for resolutions and goals. This year we wanted to give you some ideas to help you focus on creating the best version of yourself in 2018. Our resolutions focus on the mind, body & spirit and how we can bring out the best in ourselves in these three areas:
For your Mind
1). Take 20 minutes of uninterrupted you time a day.
Meditate, breathe, journal. Whatever it takes to hit the re-set button and give yourself some peace from the daily chaos. Take some deep breaths and begin with breathing in love, hope, peace, tranquility and balance. Then release any stress, anxiety, or fears with each exhale.
1). Let it go.
Yes, that’s right…it’s time to let go of anything that is holding you back from your inner peace. If there is any lingering tension or stress in your life, it’s time to let it go. Resolve any conflict you might have going on in your life, it could be with family member, or a friend. Let go of the insecurity, the lack of confidence, anger, unhappiness and self loathing. Once we learn to release the stress, tension, or whatever is going on, we will feel a sense of relief, restore inner peace and put our mind at ease.
3). Get more sleep.
This may seem like an obvious one, but it is often overlooked. Try unplugging the phone, shutting off the computer and heading to bed at a reasonable hour. Studies have shown time and time again that getting an adequate amount of sleep is truly beneficial to our minds. The extra hours of rest can lead to less stress, improved memory, sharpened attention, creativity and more.
For your Body
1). Drink more water.
Not only will you become more hydrated, drinking more water on a daily basis will help you feel more energized, boost your brain function, and give your skin a heathy glow. (yes, please!)
2). Take up an activity.
Yoga, running, cycling- it can literally be anything. Try to find a physical activity that will get you up and moving around. Whatever you decide on, make sure you have an interest in it, that way it will be enjoyable and something to look forward to!
3). Practice mindful eating.
This doesn’t mean that you should start dieting, or give up everything you love to eat. It’s simply an encouragement to be mindful of what you’re consuming. Try adding a few extra veggies into your daily diet, or enjoy green tea instead of coffee. This simple little steps will help you to become more healthy and balanced in the long run.
For your Soul
1). Go on a retreat.
Find a place that sets your soul on fire and go. Whether it’s a yoga retreat, an out-ward bound, or traveling abroad. It is so important for us to explore our external and internal wants and needs. Set aside some time this year to plan a retreat, or getaway for yourself with the intention of self discovery. You’ll thank yourself later.
2). Focus on the positive.
For in the home: every morning when you wake up write down something that you love and are thankful for. Whether it’s your pet, your spouse or your passion, whatever it is write it down in a gratitude journal. When you’re out and about: try to see the good in every situation. Focus on the people you’re with, or situation you’re currently in with love, kindness and acceptance. The more we reflect on the goodness in our lives, the more peaceful and happy we will be overall.
3). Resolve to love yourself.
You are beautiful just as you are. You are perfect. You are enough. This year, make the commitment to self love and acceptance. You are beautifully and wonderfully made, flaws and all. The sooner we can love ourself for who we truly are, the more we will feel a sense of peace and it will be easier for us to show love to others, too.
So that’s it! Try implementing some of these resolutions in the New Year and watch yourself thrive.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
